Unfortunately, in India, we still do not recognize Event Management as an official Industry, mostly because of its unorganized structure. This ultimately makes it difficult for an institute to design a course that will cater to the growing need of qualified professionals in Event Management.
If you are thinking of pursuing EM seriously, then try and get a job while you study EM in NIEM or any other institute. Actual on-field experience is what will help you in this field.
P.S.- I have done a Diploma from NIEM and went on to complete an MBA afterwards. MBA got me a descent job in an Event Management company and my diploma helps me perform better than others.

I don't think an individual needs to do a degree for Event Management.
Personal opinion - Get a internship or entry level job at an event management company all you need to learn is practical/Operational stuff.There's no theory of event management to learn.Rather than that go for an MBA in strategy or Marketing. this way you'll not constrain yourself & your horizon will be wide enough. Getting an Event management degree will only narrow your career path.
